In Memoriam Sgt. Mark Wert

The officers and members of the Parkland Fire Company regret to announce the passing of retired Middletown Township Police Department Sergeant Mark Wert, who passed away on December 1, 2021. Sergeant Wert served with the Middletown Township Police Department for 33 years. During his time with the police department, he served as their representative in the Skyline District Association. It was here that he forged not only a great working relationship between the fire companies and police department, but became a close friend to us all. Our condolences go out to the Wert Family and the Middletown Township Police Department. We will all miss you Sergeant Wert.

In the afternoon hours of February 28th, Tactical Box 9-52 was transmitted for a reported dwelling fire with possible entrapment in the 100 block of Beechwood Avenue. Captain Bill Oettinger arrived right after dispatch.

It's that time of year again! When you change your clocks, change your batteries in all of your smoke detectors. If you have a sealed 10-year smoke detector, simply test it and make sure it is in working order.

The 2023 Parkland Fire Company Banquet was held at the Bella Tori at the Mansion in Langhorne. Past President Jim McFadden was honored for his 60 years of service by the company as well as State Senator Frank Farry and State Representative Joe Hogan.

The members of PFC had some special guests stop by on a Tuesday training night. Gregg Whitmore from IDEX corporation, the parent company of Hurst Rescue Tools, John Sileski and Frank Watson of MES treated the members to dinner.

Today we mark the anniversary of the loss of one of our own local police officers. On January 29, 2009, Officer Chris Jones was struck and killed by a vehicle while on a traffic stop on Route 1. Officer Jones was posthumously promoted to Detective.

Fire Prevention Week is October 9-15 this year. This years theme is making an escape plan. It is important for everyone to plan and practice a home fire escape. Everyone needs to be prepared in advance, so that they know what to do when the smoke alarm sounds.

PFC members participated once again in this year's National Night Out, hosted by the Middletown Township Police Department. Rescue 9 was on display for the public to get a close up look. Crews from PFC as well as Penndel Fire Company simulated a vehicle extrication for the public.
